Testimony makes it clear that the Justice Dept believed the warrantless wiretapping FISA Law was illegal. Yet the top members of Bush's staff tried to get Atty Gen Ashcroft, while in intensive care, to approve it while he was not even the official Atty Gen. And Bush, when asked if he authorized the visit, would not answer the question. I wonder if diehard Republicans can find any comparison between lying about one's sex life in a minor league civil lawsuit and using these sort of tactics to get approval for an illegal law, then using that law without approval for at least three weeks.
