School Bus Stop laws are different in different states. I drive a bus in Ohio, and there, oncoming traffic is not required to stop while a school bus is loading or unloading if the road has four or more lanes of traffic or the road is divided by a raised median.

The following link should have the laws for you state.

And when in doubt, stop. The fine is really high.

When there is a division in the road, like a median strip or a curbed area where one can stand, it is not required to stop if you are in the opposite direction. In the majority of cases, the bus unloads to the right so the children will not be crossing the roadway to the left unless there is a light or a cross guard.
In the states of Alabama, West Virginia, New York, Mississippi and Arkansas, their law is you must stop.
However, you may slow down and keep a careful eye on the children. Accidents have happened.

All site visitors could desire to quit in the two guidelines. the only exception is that if there is an rather concrete divider, wherein case some jurisdictions say that automobiles traveling in the different direction do no longer could desire to quit (same-direction nonetheless could desire to quit).
