...........make pina colada cocktails, as a table center piece get a sand castle bucket add wet sand and turn it out onto a large platter and decorate with shells. Get your hands on a non smelly fishing net and hang it in the corner of the room. Get palm leaves to decorate the room. Order fish and chips or get little wok boxes, line with silicon paper and add crumbed cooked fish in each as well as some oven fries and seafood sauce. Serve a platter of tropical fruit. Buy some coconuts and drill holes, add a liqueur and a straw with a mini umbrella. Hope this helps.

I did that for my rehearsal dinner. Email me if you want to see pictures.

Basically I used bright colors everywhere. Turquoise table clothes. I had luncheon napkins in fushia and larger napkins in sand. I also had some accent colors of tangerine and lime green.

For centerpieces I used tropical flowers (really expensive) so try to pick up some max impact flowers--ginger root, fake birds of paradise or hibiscus. I used glads--the multi blooms on a single stem made it much cheaper. I bought hibiscus silk flowers and sprinkled them everywhere.

Served lots of fruit. You can also do a bbq luau style. Pineapples actually make great decorations too. You can hollow one out much easier than many other fruits. Like others said mixed drinks. There are tons of drinks. But for flavors think--pineapple, mango, passionfruit, banana, coconut, citrus flavors. Peach is also rather appropriate as is other melon flavors (watermelon, honeydew, cantalope)--in fact as far as decorating ideas you could decorate in cantalope and honeydew--that would be very calm and soothing.

Of course some steel pan music. If you want dancing there have been lots of songs in the last couple years that have that sound--Black Eyed Peas "Hey Mama", Outcast, Sean Paul, Rihanna, Shaggy.

We had everyone in hawaiian shirts and bought a box of leis for everyone at the entrance. Perhaps if you have one of those multicolored single person hammocks (netted designed by military hammocks so that they don't take up much space), bring one of those inside. Adds a nice splash of color.

Tiki torches were a great touch. Nice atmosphere. We lined the tables and placed several up the sidewalk. Everyone commented on them and you can get them everywere. We also had some glade pineapple scented candles. Yankee Candle has a great new scent Canary Island Banana that would be perfect. To give that extra lil bit, we put up some pictures of tropical scenes. Found some nice posters of Bora Bora and some other South Pacific islands with sunsets that we put up to set the tone as well.

Caribbean themes are awesome. Bold colors always stand out and you can use less and still have just as much bang. You could also consider using those paper lanterns to hang up around the place. Now they have some much much smaller--that could be hung up like regular christmas lights--often patio umbrellas already have them strung around the outer edge.

Well Make sure to send out invites requesting your guests to come dressed in their wildest tourist or carribean islander outfit. It would be great to have half of them dress as tourists and half as islanders. Or you as the host could be the "islander" Great them with Leis or pass out disposible cameras to the "tourists" to take pics of the party to make a scrapbook of later. Cut a watermelon in half and make a fruit salad Inside the melon. Research online island drinks and appetizers. Make sure to have carribean music playing like merengue, soca and carnival music. If you have a specific island you are trying to resemble see if you can look online at one of their yearly festivals and get ideas for decorations. Use a dingy or rowboat for a cooler with lots of drinks and make sure if its outside at nigth that you have cool lighting , like the paper lanterns and some tiki torches and you should be good to go. have all your geusts turn in the disposable cameras b4 they leave and after you have the pics developed upload them to photobucket.com and share the link so they can all have copies to make their own scrapbooks! Also If your friends are really daring try to host a small talent show with them , singing karaoke , dancing or whatever, or a short game show ... and make sure you get it all caught on tape!!!!! Have a great time!
