You have the y value. Solve for x. Plug in -2 for y
5x -3y = 11
5x -3(-2) = 11
5x +6 = 11
5x = 5
x=1
(1,-2)

(x, -2) represents one point (x,y) on the line represented by your equation, 5x - 3y = 11. To solve for x, plug in the given y value -2 in the equation and solve for the unknown.

5x - 3y = 11 becomes 5x - 3(-2) = 11

=> 5x+6 = 11 so 5x = 5 and x = 1.

(x,-2) tells you that y= -2.
So plug -2 for y in the given equation and solve for x.
5x -3(-2) = 11
5x+6 = 11
5x = 5
x =1

since you have the point (x,-2) you can plug it into the equation. so-> 5x-3(-2)=11

then solve for x
5x+6=11
5x=5
x=1
