I know he used violence against members of the KKK, but what about any bombings?

The only illegal activities I have heard of were burglaries and illegal wiretaps. He also investigated individuals and groups because of their political beliefs rather than suspected criminal activity. It is also said he gathered information on politicians and then used it as blackmail to maintain his power. His private life is rumored to be scandalous.
