That green one is the ground to keep you from getting a shock if there is a failure and the metal of the lamp contacts a live wire.

Do not connect the green to the black or you will surely have a problem.

Look for a green-headed screw sticking in the metal that you can attach the green wire to. If there is not one then drill a hole that you can put a pan head self-tapping screw into so you can attach the green wire to it.

No... The green is the Ground wire, Dont twist it with the Hot ( Black) it is to attach to the metal frame of the shop light... There should be a grounding screw on the fixture it self attach the green wire to the screw, and the white to the white and the black to the black

Both of the other anwsers can be correct. Black is hot, in 120 volts white is neutral and green is ground. If the fixture doesnt have a ground screw, which i doubt it does, you can just cut the green wire off or you can pigtail it with the white wire. As long as it is 120 volts. It probably is but they do have 220 shoplights I just wanted to be clear on that. If you twist the green to black youre either gonna trip the breaker, get shocked and/or soil yourself.

Black is hot, white is neutral, green is the ground wire. On a shop light the green wire can be left off, if you pigtail it to the black wire you will trip the breaker.

Black wire is hot
White wire is neutral
Green wire is ground. Connect your black wires together, connect the white wires together, and attach the green wire to a good ground such as the electrical box, or the light fixture.
