How to create an HTML dropdown menu box that shows selection on the same page?

All the online tutorials just tells me how to link a dropdown selection to a different page. I want to know the html code for a drop down menu that when you select an item, it will show the information on the same page. Like for example the one of the things listed on the drop down is " picture1", it will show the picture right below it. Can anyone help me? Thank you so much!

There are two parts to this answer.
1) You need a link to "Go to"

Note not text between the tags.

2) You need to go to the link.
www.site.com/page.html#picture1
or
yourpage.html#picture1
