Gone With the Wind is my all time favorite book because it is a timeless classic and has a little bit of everything in it. War, romance, adventure, drama, you name it and this book has it. Also, read the book instead of watching the movie. The book is ten times better!

I would have to say that my all time favorite book is probably either The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, or The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. I read both of them for school during sophomore year, and despite the fact that I read so many books each year outside of what I read for school, both of these books just really made an impression on me.
On the other hand, my current favorite (this changes...weekly) is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. And that'll change in a few days, when I find a new book to read.

A Wizard of Earthsea (Ursula K. Leguin).
A very elegant book, short--especially for a fantasy--but if you pay attention to it and absorb yourself in it, you'll get a lot more substance out of it than you'll get from many a thicker book. I read it the same time I read Eragon and honestly, Earthsea was a lot more fulfilling. Where Eragon was basically "journey from point A to point B...and grow up a little while you're at it..."
Earthsea dealt with these ideas a bit more majestically and humanly, focusing on the inner battles that make us who we are. I found a lot of depth in less than 300 pages as opposed to mostly fluff in almost 3 times that length (Eragon in paperback)

I have three (in no particular order): 1984, Animal Farm, and Brave New World.
All three talk about human nature and what it means to be human. 1984 is a glimpse at what humanity's future can be if we continue to be stupid and sacrifice freedom for safety.
Brave New World shows what could happen if we started playing God in the laboratory. Plus, it reminds me of now, with the inundation of advertising and media influence on our lives. We are encouraged to become one group with a hive-like mentality where individuality is being discouraged.
Animal Farm is perhaps one of the best allegories ever written. Leaders are pigs... the idea should make almost anyone laugh at the similarities. It also exposes our real nature, that we are animals and we let pigs dictate our lives.

Well Ms. B,
My favorite book is "The Great Brain" by Rhold Dahl.
I think that's how you spell his name.
Anyway, when I was a kid, I read the whole series and just like the " Three Investigators" by Hitchcock. These books sucked you right into the life of the Great brain.

My favorite book of all time is CANDIDE. by Voltaire, an eighteenth century French author who was a forerunner of Mark Twain, in a way, because he wrote about very deep human experiences with a tongue in cheek approach that keeps you smiling and crying at the same time and leaves you with a much greater understanding of the human race. CANDIDE, in my opinion, is about an eight on the scale of ten for the greatest books ever written.
