80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Can we learn sexual pleasure without actually undergoing it? We never possibly can. Similarly we can learn what life is only by living. And we can learn what death is only by dying.

Life is full of experiences. In life, the tests come first followed by the lessons. Irrespective of whether or not we learn from those experiences of birth and death continue to happen each and every moment of life.

Therefore if I think that life ends when I die, I have learned nothing out of my experience. If I understand that there is no space or time in the universe which is without life, then only I understand the meaning of life and existence. Life is eternal and I am part of eternity. This according to me is the meaning of life. There is nothing to learn in life. Everything in life is to be experienced.

The meaning of life is to provide food for the cosmos. Whether we learn or not is of no importance. Just our existence is all that is needed!

i think the meaning of life is personal.

that is the problem, everyone wants one generalized meaning and they cant accept that there isnt one.

so i would say the meaning is 42, how you interpret that is the true meaning.

I think the true meaning of life is found in living the theological virtues; faith , hope, and charity. faith leads us to believe in the transcendental reality which is God. Hope tells us we can find true happiness in our lives. lastly, Charity drives us to give ourselves to others for the sake of their well being.
