Alot has been said about the Yankees slow start. This is the first time since 1995 they've been 10 games out of 1st place, but more important, I wonder when was the last time the Yankees were in last place on May 1st, as they were this year? When was the last time the Yankees were 5 games under .500 after May 1st? And how about this late in the season? When was the last time a Yankees team reached the All Star break with a losing record? Last time they finished the season under.500? Where can I find answers to questions like this? Where do the stat guys on talk radio get their statistics?

The Yankees major problem is their pitching which is compounded by their inability to play consistently good defense. With the exception of Jeter and Rodriguez, this is a mediocre team from a defensive standpoint. They make far too many errors and allow their pitchers to get into trouble which is very bad when your pitching staff is as thin as the Yankees is. Last night was a perfect example of what happens when you do not play fundamentally sound defense. They gave up a two run homerun on a missed catch by Damon and allowed two runs on a late inning error by Cano. There is the difference in the game. Good defense helps support struggling pitchers. If Torre cannot get his team to play better on the defensive end of the ball, there is nothing that can save this team. Roger Clemens alone cannot carry the team.

Wow, how quickly people have adjusted to the winning ways of the Yankees in recent years. Try being a fan in the late 80's early 90s. The Bucky Dent, Dallas Green, Stump Merrill Yankees. They were lucky if they played .500 baseball. This Yankee team in the end will prove to be much better than those Yankee teams. This is a bit of a tough road right now, but there have been many worse in years past. The late 80's early 90's is nothing compared to the late 60's.

The Yankees are not as bad as they were in the early 1990s. Those Yankee teams stunk like none other. They were last under .500 back in 1992, when they finished 76-86. That was the year they decided to actually start building a farm system, and drafted Derek Jeter in the first round. They last finished in last place back in 1990, when they lost 95 games.

I am 50
The Yanks were awful in the middle 1960s into the early 70s when G. Steinbrenner took the team over.
The Yanks did not embrace Black players and suffered horribly back then. Too many white people.
Management was not in tune with sports CBS-TV owned the team and they were a joke.
This is a losing streak and they will be back.

If you liked my insight into the old days. Can I have a star or BA please.

I AM A YANKEE FAN but I'll be a baseball fan for just a moment. Tex-A-Gon Tex. Switchie and what I believe is a more promising player for a longer time than A-Gon. Ellsbury-Gardiner. Can't say. I think they're in every category except for the fact that Ellsbury has been an everyday starter and therefore has had more time to prove himself. Jeter-Pedroia. Jeter for his sportmanship, Pedroia for his youthfulness and energy. Besides that I still think their tool boxes are matched.
