That E10 crap is WAY less efficient and costs a lot more than biodiesels....
And remember when CNG (propane) was supposed to save the world (even though it's carbon dioxide emisssions were much, much higher than traditional gasoline)?
Biodiesel and fuel cell technology have been available and affordable for decades!!
What the hell is wrong with us???!!

Thanks everyone - (mostly) great answers!!!!
(Don't you love it when dumb people try to sound smarter than you?)
I don't think I buy the whole "This is better than nothing" argument, but it IS a good thing to change the public opinion about fuel consumption (or start to change it, at least...)
I would also love to live off the grid somewhere in my own personal paradise....
It's nice to "talk" to people who think for themselves!!

Ehthanol is a corporate-welfare fraud and there are science studies showing that to produce one gallon of that hooch requires more energy than that contained therein. You unbelievers, search that yourselves. It's not hard. Further, what is proposed is to use our food acreage to grow, not protein for human and animal consumption, but crops to feed the maws of ethanol refineries. This is serious and will result in famine dwarfing that of Egypt during the time of dream-reading Joseph, one of the wisest Secretaries of Agriculture in the history of the world. He'd be disgusted and have the guts to tell Pharaoh so. We need another Joseph right now to chart course, not some Washington corporate-insider suit.

I know I can't answer a question w/a question but what the hell is wrong with us? We should be fully exploiting the technologies available regarding biodiesel and electricity, but why aren't we? the damn politicians are in the pockets of the oil companies who, by the way, have been posting record profits lately while the working person has to ride their bike or horse or something to get to school or work. I am looking forward to the day when my Lady and i get out of college so we can move out of the city and into the country, set up a solar power system, and do everything we can to get the hell of the grid and be self-sustaining...peace...

actually, using crops that use fertilizer and petroleum to produce does not make things better in itself...but the technology is young and will evolve. In order to work, any sort of cellulose should be able to be used to make it. But the advantage of using corn is that it gets the processing on its feet...in less than 10 years they should be able to use any sort of yard/farm waste or even cardboard (or some sort of vegetation that is cheap and easy to grow) to make ethanol from. the only way we can really reduce emmissions is to think of ways to live without burning fuels

Sorry, but you're knowledge of the science and technology is way off. Propanedoes not produce more CO2. And while fuel cellls aren't new, they are not even close to being commercially practical.

Well, sort of. A bushel of corn is up 43%. By this time 2008 Frito's and corn bread will be Gourmet food.

the envirowhackos have sold the dumbest among us a bill of goods that unfortunately, they are much too dumb to see through...i mean, just look at the hysteria produced by the gorebal warming scam if you need further proof of this...so, it is up to those of us who ARE intelligent enough to see through this crap to save the tree hugging dopes from themselves.
