I'm learning about them at school, Ms. Cots says that they lit the fires by the mouth of the caves but I want to know why, I can ask her on Monday but I want to know now, it's not nice when you have a question and it's unanswered andI have to wait another whole day. please tell me thanks, I think its because a fire might burn the whole cave if you lit it in the cave and you will die because of the smoke but isn't there another reason?

unless they had a cave with a hole in the top to let the smoke out then if they had the fire in the middle the smoke would fill the cave.
another reason is that they wanted to make the fire be a protector scare away animails and things. snakes for one are attacted to heat. so if the snake felt the heat far back in the cave it would come in but if the fire was there at the door then the snake evil things that they are would either leave or burn to death as i wished they all had.
your teacher is not totally correct however a deep long cave would have been dark so small fires for light would have been needed to see and placed in various places around in the cave.
when your teacher tells you stuff like this dont just swallow it
when i was a child teachers said dinasors died because they ate all the grass and trees. this really was in books and really was taught . in addtion they teach what the goverment wants if you watch and learn what the kids in china are taught about the west you would laugh but here our schools teach much the same crap.
i remember them teaching me that in the ussr the people were all sad and had to work in slave like jobs. the kgb was all bad and was like a bunch of nuts who tortured people .
well we can see that cant be true as the elected leader of russia was the head of the kgb . so they didnt dislike him too much . as for the jobs and living conditions i have met trademens who have come to canada and they say there standard of living was as good or better in the ussr then it is here now.
so you see dont trust all the goverment paid and commanded teacher tells you .

The simple answer is to keep the cave from filling with smoke, however, the answer that they always built their fires at the mouth of the cave isn't an absolute.

It often depended on what they used for fuel (some things don't smoke as much as other things) and how large of a fire they built (larger fires could produce more smoke) and the climate in which they lived (a wet and cold climate required a fire deeper into the cave) and the environment in which they lived (fire was defense against some types of predators and competing bands of people).

There is also the factor that not all caves were singularly open only at the mouth. Some (many) other openings through which smoke could escape. Some were large enough that smoke dissipated into the interior (consider that to get into the interior these people had to use fire lite torches and the smoke from them was not a problem.

From the limited information in your question it would appear that your teacher should research the subject more thoroughly before making such declarations.

The fires will burn your eyes and use up all the oxygen and you'll be coughing and suffocating and smoke from fires kills people. Build the fire in the mouth of the cave and the wind will carry away the harmful effects of the fire

the smoke needs somewhere to go. if you lit it in the back, the smoke would collect on the ceiling and drive everyone out.

also, it might have been for protection or a sense of security, to have the fires at the mouth.

Smoke seems to be the best reason. :) You wouldn't want to light a fire in the middle of your living room, because the smoke would be contained in that small space and have nowhere to escape. That's why we light fires in a fireplace, so smoke can escape through the chimney.

To keep the smoke out of their eyes?

Did you ever light a campfire inside a fort when you were a kid? You learn real quick why chimneys were invented.

How about keeping wild animals away - most animals are afraid of fire
