Big Superman fan, and I'd like to hear how much he can lift. I love the Superman Returns, and I can see he's strong, but I want more!

since Superboy Prime could move entire planets, I don't think that there really is a maximum weight. on the other hand if he is away from a yelow sun for a long time, then he loses his strength

Superman can lift incredible weights and objects and not have them collapse under their own weight, indicating a powerful form of telekinesis that surrounds the object protecting it from outside stresses. The upper limit to his physical strength is not known but with the telekinetic lifting capabilities possessed by Superman, he could conceivably lift objects weighing 3,000,000 tons or more. It is conceivable that he could lift more if he was completely powered and using all of his stored energies. Many folks seems to have made Superman's strength to be static and limited. Two factors that have been pointed in the past is that theoretically Superman's strength also comes from a psionic ability to enhance his strength. Another theory which has actually been seen and explained by writers such as Stern and L. Simonson, Superman's strength increases geometrically in accordance to his proximity to the sun. While we concur with both theories, we also must be adamant that Kal-El has a base strength that exceeds most metahumans. The combination of these factors give Superman an incalculable, if not infinite, amount of strength. However, due to self imposed mental blocks living and influenced by human limitations and even fear, in most instances, Superman doesn't tap the full extent of his powers. His battle with Doomsday, while seemingly took him to his limits, still took his best simply because in all the instances he fought the creature he was still hesitant to really cut loose and kill. Without the self imposed limitations, he could theoretically reach a strength rivalling that of Pre-Crisis Superman.
In a recent issue of Action Comics, J'onn Jonnz commented that had Superman continued his blows on the surface of the moon, he would have knocked it out of orbit. The amount of solar energy he's converted determines the amount of strength his psionic potential provides. In Adventures of Superman #427, a flashback scene to Krypton strongly implies that Krypton's gravity is still stronger than Earth's. This means that some of his strength is high-gravity based.

well step one is he's a superhero... so considering his existance would be miraculous in itself... he should be able to lift... a hell of a lot... but if the story calls for him not to be able to say, stop an avalanche then he's not that strong...
so it's something over 10tonnes (I'm sure he's lifted a truck once or twice) but less than a million tonnes... being also made of some weird *** cell structure and the ability to know up or which way home is, an avalance wouldn't encase him forever... so I think he can lift in the order of tonnes, but also pat a kitten... he's a superhero it it doesn't seem possible that he could lift it without the ground crushing under him then it's too heavy... if not then he can lift it over his head and do carwheels without getting a hair out of place...

At one point in the comics, he could hurl a car with ease. They tried to make set limits for his powers so that he doesn't seem invincible or too powerful. But as time went on, they would expand on their ideas and make him strong enough to move mountains. That being said, there really isn't any limit to how strong or how powerful he is. When imposed with an impossible situation, he always shines through in some way, shape or form. He truly is the Man of Steel.
