What's the best way to sew the cat ears on to a hood, how to make them stand up? What material should they be made out of? Any extra advice anyone might have is welcome.

there is a specific kind of felt that is sorta stiff that would probably would be best to make them out of. to sew them on, go through the bottom, then through the top of the hoodie, and repeat. for the whole length of the bottom of the ear. [all hand stiching]. and that should probably work.

cut slits on the hood, insert your cat ears, then sew from the inside so that the outside looks clean and neat. how to make them stand up- buy some hard interfacing from your local fabric store (it's white and kinda thick and usually cheap), cut out the cat ears' shape and put some inside the cat ears. and yey they should stand! good materials include velour, velvet and plush fabrics. good luck!

I'd suggest getting a "cat-eared" headband (like used for costumes; example linked below), removing the ears from the headband, and attaching them to your hoodie.
