i want to publicise the following link with my co workers , but would like to make it simple as possible. Can i omit the .htm part at the end?
i.e can i make
freshgasflow.com/steps.htm
to
freshgasflow.com/steps

No the .html (.htm) tag is not necessary if your main home page is titled index.html in that case the browser will enter the last folder at the end of path and automatically find the index file, but if your main home file is called something else, or if you wish your co-workers to access a different web page other than index then it would do no harm to put the.html in the address or the browser will get confused.

Yes you can.
But you must create the file without the .htm or .html on the internet. If this is someone elses file then you cannot change that and must have the .extension on the file name.
An alternative if you are in charge of the website is to make steps a directory and have the file with the html as the default name of index.html then you do not need the file name at all.

Actually, there's a workaround. Create a subdirectory to your website called "steps". the htm file that would normally be called "steps.htm" should be named "index.htm" and placed within the steps directory. If you don't specify an htm/html file in the link, the browser will default to the index.htm or index.html. In short, the address freshgasflow.com/steps will direct the user to freshgasflow.com/steps/index.htm

Well, yes and no.
YES:
* Google Page Creator omits the .htm or .html
* It can work, because the server returns the MIME type as HTML.
NO:
* By default, servers without the .htm or .html have problems (like on Windows as well)
* The MIME type will probably have problems.

The only way that not including the ".html" part will work is if you are linking to a directory that already had an index.html file in it.
Basically, no, if you're linking to a webpage, you need to include the file extension.
