buy a stick of ram. Make sure you know what kind of ram you have. You most likely have SDMM ram, try this. Go to "my computer" and click on view system information. This is if you are using windows XP, you should be able to see how much ram you have. If you have atleast 128mb you should be good depending on what you are running. Try clearing the internet cache or removing things off from your taskbar(running programs you don't need). Also go to run, type in sysconfig, and deselect all boxes in startup. See if your computer runs better. Each time you'll have to do that. Only the required items will run when your computer is rebooted.

Yes, Some versions of Windows call it Virtual memory while others call it Paging File. Virtual memory (or paging file) is actually hard drive space reserved for memory operations.
To change the Virtual memory:
1. Go into your system properties (enter control panel and double click computer [control panel\Performance and Maintenance\system[)
2. Click Advanced Tab and then click settings on the "Performance" section usually the first in the list.
3. Click the Advanced tab and click change on the "virtual memory tab)
4. Enter the initial size and the maximum size you wish and click set to complete. Making sure that the system or Windows managed file isn't selected or it will simply revert back after closing the tab.

you can have as much virtual memory as you want providing you have a big enough hard drive, but physical memory is the best thing virtual memory is temporary thing,
just like you having to pick something up, and your hands are full, so you put an item down to pick up what you need to pick up, though if you had a bag you could put everything in it and carry it off
the bag is the physical (memory) item
