Hello Planet:

My backyard is truly uneven I would like to maybe build a gazabo or put a patio in my backyard but my problem is
the dirt is uneven I don't want to pay $800 for someone to
someone to make the whole backyard even. Since, I only
want a gazabo can I just have someone dump dirt in that
area or can I build a deck under the gazaboo in that area an put bushes around it?

Not all structures are built on even ground. Decks, gazabos, patios, etc can all be built on uneven ground without the necessity of bringing in additional soil.

A contractor will come out with a transit and mark the corners where the piers are going to be placed. The transit tells the contractor how many feet and/or inches the ground varies so any structure that is built is level. The piers are then cut to the proper length so that the gazebo's floor is level.

Likewise, if you are going to pour a concrete slab for the gazebo, the corners are marked and forms are set according to the rise and fall of the terrain. Sometimes the ground needs to be dug out to bring the slab to grade.

In any event, before you go buying a few yards of soil, make sure you have the corners marked with a transit, otherwise it is just guess work and not a good idea for a structure you want level and right.

Good luck!!!

No, just pour the appropriate number of footings making sure the tops are level. That's what we did. Just make sure the back of the gazebo is secure so people don't back off the steep side.
