anyone know a router that has a coverage of around 20 ft or less?

the reason is that my parents want us to stay in one room when we're on the internet. don't ask why, i don't know. and there's no way i can argue w/ them b/c thier stubburn, so please don't try to give advice on trying to convince them otherwise.

add to the parents out there, i'm not complaining. i think it's a good idea to limit our internet.

it's just that a tangle of wires for 5 computers all connected to a router is bound to yield problems, whether it's fights or technical.

but can anyone suggest a wireless router with a low coverage?!?

there's always the "money or the gun" style responce of "you can have a cable or risk your neibours using it"...
and if they only use the router in one room why would they need wireless? it's just a security risk...
you could try to modify a router's aerial, or lead line the room...
all I can think of is to get a normal router make up some short 4-5ft long cables, and a few boxes round the room with a direct physical link to the router, and have then near places you and your parent's generally use the comp...
other than that it's generally wide range or no range =/

Wireless routers work using radio waves. Radio waves gradually attenuate with distance, and nearby objects, and bounce off nearby objects causing "hot spots" and nulls at various locations and distances.

There is no "magic router" that can have a consistent range of say 20 ft or 16.5 ft or X ft.

For such a small range, a wired network with some sort of a locking device on the cables to prevent the use of an "extension" is probably a better choice.

I believe that if all the computers in your house are on the same wireless network, it doesn't matter which room the router/modem is in.
We have a wireless network in our house. Our modem is in the living room. We have computers all over our house- 2 are within 20 feet of the modem.
If you are under 18 years old, I think it's a great idea for your parents to be concerned about what you might be accessing on the internet- but I also believe they have the opportunity to use parental controls.
I am a grandmother, raising grandchildren. I monitor everything they do on the internet, but they mostly play games.
Try to understand that your parents are concerned for your safety, and then include them in your internet practices. You really will have a good time with it.

now now, us parents love our children thats is why we protect you from all the evils this world throws out at kids like yourself.

You think we don't understand, it is you that does not understand why we do these things. in a nut shell for your protection,

and why do you want to hide what your doing when your on the net, it is because you know your doing wrong and don't want you're parents to know,
