Yes.

They come with good instructions for installation, so just follow those to get it set up.

Once it is set up:

Change the administrator password on the router.

Make sure the firewall is enabled.

Enable ping blocking.

Change the default router IP address. Only change the third number in the sequence. (I.e. change it from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.xxx.1 where xxx is a number between 1 and 255)

If you are setting up wireless:

Change the SSID.

On your laptop snoop around to see what other wireless networks are there. Check to see which channels they are on. Set your channel to be at least 2 away from the stronger signals.

Enable encryption on the wireless. WEP is O.K. WPA is better.

Doing the above will make your computers much harder to attack from outside, will give you the best wireless signal and will stop anyone 'borrowing' your wireless. (People using your wireless slows down your download speed. Also if they go anywhere they should not, your ISP will come knocking on your door not theirs!)

If most of the above is jibberish to you right now, do not worry, it will be clearer after you go through the router set up.

Yes.. Real Easy if You have XP, Not Sure If You have 98, ME Ect. Because These Dont have a Thing Called 'Plug N' PLay'..

Just Insert The Disk You get With the Router, And Follow On-Screen Insturctions, Most Routers Are The Same Really...

Yes Ian,most routers are pretty easy to install, especially if you using a ethernet connection,in this case ian its just a case of power up,plug in and your off
routers such as the bt home hub and the bt voyager series are probally the easiest to install with the a.o.l set ups being among the more technical set ups, however overall most are straight forward
try to steer clear of u.s.b connections on routers, this is for two reasons, the first being the speed, usb are slower than ethernet, unless you have a usb2.0 port and secondly usb connections need drivers installed to run, even in windows xp,and in certain configurations they can be quite difficult to install
however ethernet(or network/rj-45)is much easier to set up and works at a full 100mbps,
ethernet is so easy to install its a case of plugging in the ethernet lead into the router, then the other side into the p.c,and thats it,you will then see a network icon configuring itself in the taskbar, and in around 2 minutes you should be configured
most decent routers come with around 4 x ethernet ports,and 1 x u.s.b port
the best manufacturers of wireless adsl/cable routers are belkin, linksky, and the best make is netgear
finally its pretty hard to advise you on routers as each are different in their setup procedures,so if you have any problems with any routers let me know and i will give you soem help configuring it
good luck mate!
