There is probably a small piece jammed in the path... You will have to carefully search for it and remove it. Look in the sensor area, where it detects the jams!

There is almost 100% something stuck in the paper path.
DO NOT turn an inkjet on side or upside down, there can bee inj reserves that can leak.
Place printer on a table so you can get to all sides, and grab torch and tweezers.
Allow it to try to feed a sheet of paper, and note how far in the paper twists, this is location of obstruction.
CAREFULLY remove paper, and use the torch se if you can spot it, then carefully remove with tweezers.
Could be piece of paper, staple, paperclip, I've even removed a small paper plane from a large printer (Cust put it on paper tray when they put "plain" paper in not headed, and it got fed it)
Also check the Canon website for tips, may be diagrams on how to access under the heads etc.

What I do (and that i'm I.T.) is open each door or tray or cabinet that opens, one after the different, and close them firmly. many times this solves it. If no longer, take all the paper remote from the printer, and open all the doors back, finding for any bits of paper that could be trapped interior. If this is nonetheless whining, unplug it for a couple of minutes and plug it back in.

Sounds like something is stuck in the paper path......a torn off piece of paper, staple, paper clip etc...If the paper is pulling in crooked, something is blocking it on one side. Get a flash light, turn the printer on its side if you have to, and look. It may help to remove the outer covers.
Don't be afraid to turn the printer any way you have to in order to look. Ink will not spill out in modern ink jet printers as someone else suggested.

After double checking for paper make sure your paper is in straight and fan the stack to loosen it up,then turn off and clear faults.
