My girlfriend is getting a Laptop For graduation. i was wondering if i could use my Linksys WTR54G wireless G broadband router as a Access point. she has Dial up and uses an internal modem . but they do also have a NIC in their computer as well. so is it possible to set it up as a wireless access point.

i know routing dial up will be slow really really slow. but for now thats what she has her mom is thinking about dsl but she doesnt want to pay like $60 to the only company where she lives. my question is how would i set it up. i mean i cant put an an Phone line in to the Internet port on the router. its an RJ45 port and a phone line wont work with that but im user you guys would know that. so how do you set it up.

You want to route a dialup connection? It will be really slow!
You can do this with internet connection sharing but be prepaired for really slow internet.

If your WTR54g is connected to broadband just use the wireless adapter on the laptop to connect direct to it -- it is an access point.

Yes you can. Though a wireless router has a limited range, it should work well inside of your home.

Depending upon your security settings, i.e. WEP Code. You may need to set up her wireless with the WEP or other security code. If you have encryption off then she should be able to just click connect and should be assigned a DHCP IP address.

Otherwise, encrypted or not, it can be used as a wireless access point.
