Try this with windows XP
Click start
Control Panel
Printers and other hardware
Click Scanners and cameras
At top left click Add Hardware
Install wizard appears, follow it through to the end
After that you can find flash drive in
Click Start
My Computer
in the part called Devices and Removeable storage you will find your flash drive which you should double click on and open it.
*****when you are finished with your flash memory, before you remove it, check the icons on the bottom right of your screen until you find "Safely remove hardware icon" Click it, find Flash drive and click to remove it. When computer says it is safe, unplug flash drive*****

USB has some problems like that. Keep inserting and try over and over, and try all the other ports. Make sure the drive works on other computers.
If it is not working get a new flash drive. That's almost always the easiest solution. Also try reinstalling the drivers for usb. You will need the cd rom which came with your computer or you can try to download the driver from the manufacturer's website.

What Operating System you have? Many will only work with Windows XP or newer.
I tried one with Windows 98 SE and it was a no go, but, it does work with my Windows 2000 Pro and Ubuntu Linux.
Also, if you have more than one USB Port, try a different one, sometimes they get a loose fit.

Does the light on it come on? Do any other devices work on that port? Try it on a different computer, and see if it works, if it does, then its your port, if it doesn't, then the flash drive is screwed.
