You have to set a password if you want one, everything else is stored on EEprom, so it's still there.

On the mother board, you can either take off the CMOS shunt and then put it back onto the "Normal Position" or switch to "Configure" and turn the system on to enter the Bios Settings page. If you can't find the three (3) pins for the CMOS jumper settings then you can 'pluck' the battery from it's little nest. Leave the battery out for 10 - 15 minutes and replace it - correctly. Next, turn on the computer and tap the F2 ( I think, for compaq ) or the F10 key to enter your Bios page. You will need to reset the system time and date but shouldn't have to change anything else. Click the F10 or got to "save settings and exit " to restart your computer. You may need to restart a second time without having to return to Bios but your system should automatically re-align all it's settings. Good Luck.

I think you asked the wrong question. You have already reset the BIOS by removing the battery. When you next power up it will detect a first run and load the fail safe or default values which will work just fine. Dont worry yet find out if anything does not work first.

it should reset itself

you can use the built in edit bios feature and reset to factory settings (access during boot time ~ one the the F keys usually)

or look for a bios update from manufacturer

tread carefully though....if you dont understand it and theres not a problem DONT mess with it

look on the motherboard for a cmos reset jumper.
You can also reset it in the bios itself, usually pressing F5
The bottom of the BIOS screen will tell you how to reset to defaults.
