Oh you have found me, or have I found you ?
This is such a task for me.
So many of the same reasons that you state, keep me hanging on to stuff, plus everything has memories.
Life can be so much easier with less to hunt through, and less to loose what I need in.
My goal is a place for everything I need and everything I need in its place. When used, returned to its place.
I'm not perfect either, only Christ was. I also like helping others. I feel a sense of warmth about you.
One of my adult daughters is a Pisces and I could stand to learn more about that sign. She was born 2-21-57.
Will you be a contact of mine? I'm going to request it ~~jill

It can be a hard choice to make.
You should look at each item individually and decide if you use the item. If you do not use the item, then try to decide if it is something you can get rid of. If you still can't get rid of the item, box it up and put it in your garage. Chances are that after a few months you won't even know what's in the box and you may have decided by then that you can get rid of the item. I have found that its better to just get rid of the whole box rather than opening it. If you can't remember what is inside it and you haven't used it for a long time, you probably don't need it.
You will find that once you reduce clutter in your life, you'll feel happier and more free.
Hope this helps!

When you look on the back of a product there is a little symbol looks kind of like a compact, you will see 12 or maybe 14 on it. This means once the product is opened its good for that many months. This symbols is always on the box, it's maditory by the FDA and I do believe it's also found on the actual product. If you haven't used it in over a year or 2, get rid of it! You will know when something is no longer good like... Mascara, lipstick, it will smell rancid. Same with foundation. Powders, like shadows, blushes, might develop a film on top or not go on like they used too. Almost as if they have lost there pigment.

Oh, My, does this question ever hit home!!! I have a terrible time deciding what to get rid of. I have things in my garage that have been packed away for over thirty years that I haven't got around to going through. I go into the closet and start to throw out garments and then think 'Oh, I forgot about this blouse, I always liked it, maybe I'll wear it again I really hate to throw it out'. and so It gets put back on the hanger and shoved back into the closet not to be seen for another year or two.
I hate to throw out things of value and I really don't want to just give it away.
However, every now and then I 'bite the bullet' and give items to The Salvation Army or give items to our Ladies group for their White Elephant Sale or some to Family members.
I know its tough to do, but now and then we just have to or we will soon have so much in the house we can't even find a path through the place. Lots of Luck. I know what you,re going through.

I DO have a hard time with stuff like that, too. But here's a great website I found at about.com and they have things like how to better organize your life. I'm in the process of doing that right now... it's a long process.... LOL =)
I like their "4 bin" method. I have yet to try it though. But it sounds good on paper. One time when I was going thru stuff, I put all the indecisive items into a "24 hour box." I then said that whatever did not have a home in there after 24 hours was getting tossed. (The tote is still in the corner of my kitchen.)
about.com says that a good thing to do with sentimental things is to take a picture of it. That way you will always remember it without having something big to take so much room up in your home.
Good luck!

It's not really hard for me at all. If my house has gotten to the point where I need to start getting rid of things, I'm not very discriminating in what I throw out. If I haven't used it in a year or more, I'm never going to use it, so it gets tossed or given away.

Yes it is very hard. I suggest that for tihngs that you think you might need put it all into boxes and store it in your attic for about three months. Then, if you haven't used it in those past 3 months you probably won't need it ever again. Also, for things that you want to throw away a gift, just donate it. This way someone will put the gift to good use. Lastly, for things that are new that you want to throw away just do the same rule of thumb for things that you think you might need! Good luck! Hoped I helped!

I've always had that problem. I finally decided that if I haven't used it in over a year then out it goes. You can always join the yahoo freecycle group in your area and give away anything that is still useful if you don't want the hassle of having a yard sale. Or anything that you think would be worth it you can sell on e-bay. I'd try to find something similar first and see what it sold for though.
Good luck beating the pack rat habit.

No....if I haven't used it in a year, I get rid of it. Once or twice a year I like to go through everything and throw out junk, donate some stuff and have a yard sale with the good stuff we do not use.
