I couldn't be happier about the smoking ban, as I don't deserve to die because of another person's stupidity and selfishness. Nobody likes to be told what they can't do, even if they know they are killing themselves.

Smoker here. No smoker I know denies the stench. No smoker I know denies it can be unhealthy. The only smokers I know that complain about the bans are the ones who think a person who owns property and establishment should be able to decide what the rules are in his/her own place.

The second-hand smoke argument is BS. Constant exposure to it would probably make a difference, but one hour a day will make zero detectable difference and will not give you cancer. The idea that it will is BS hype and paranoia. There is nothing to the idea that sitting in the same large room with a smoker will make you die sooner.

Smoking does stink. So when making your arguments against it stick to the facts. Don't say it should be banned because of SHS, say it should be banned (at places that want to ban it) because it stinks.

Edit: "If it's bad going in it's bad going out."

It's bad going in because it's concentrated and it's being introduced *directly* into the lungs and is not given the chance to dissipate. Also, it's introduced directly to the lungs 20 times a day for years on end.

Do you know how long it usually takes to kill a long-time smoker (if at all)? It takes about 40 years of 20+ cigarettes a day. If you breathe the SHS of just one cigarette each day (which you don't unless you spend a lot of time with smokers) how long will that take to negatively impact your health? Do the math. (Keep in mind that the lungs are self-cleaning and regenerative.) Like I said, the SHS theory is BS. Just admit that you want to ban it because of the stench and leave the health concerns out of it.

I deplore smokers whose hair and clothes smell like smoke. But alas I am one and have tried to quit. It's a terrible habit and it's ugly to look at not to mention the cost. I wish they were never invented. But I do have respect for others and do not smoke in public and take good care of my oral hygiene.
I guess I'm lost on this issue. Is there a ban to stop smoking? Yeeeaaa!!!

THE NINTH AMENDMENT: The enumeration in the constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Remember this when they come for you.

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the smokers
and I did not speak out
because I was not a smoker.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

By the way if you have not heard about this yet. We all die anyway period! At least let me choose the way I want to die.

I smoke but I am not in denial nor do I smell bad because I wear this stuff called perfume. I've even had non-smokers comment that I smell good. I don't force no one to inhale my second hand smoke, if they don't like it then they don't need to be in my house or car.

Smoking is an addictive disease. They have the same reaction to smoking as addicts do to their drug of choice. The #1 symptom is denial: they deny its a problem or has consequences.

If we ban smoking, we must also ban alcohol. Both are harmful, kill others and if they were invented today would never be approved for human consumption.

Both of my parents were addicts: one to tobacco and one to alchohol. It killed them both. Making it illegal won't help.

That is very judgemental of you.
I do not agree with smoking either but I DO know they are not in denial. It is the addiction that they can not (or at leat -at this point in time, will not) give up.

I wasn't in denial. I was completely aware of all of the negative effects, but I was terribly addicted. At least I had the courtesy to smoke AWAY from judgmental idiots like you, either in my car or home.
