Intake.

The piston ports face the intake .

They face the intake side.
For future reference when repairing other 2 strokes.
2 stroke pistons have an arrow or mark on the piston dome (top).
That mark always faces forward.
So the ring ends don't get snagged in one of the cylinder's ports.

intake side. when the piston comes up it creates a vaccum and when those ports clear the intake, in comes the fresh gas/air mixture.

Considering the wrist pin faces East & West you don't have many options.
