What do modern day catholics think of gays and civil partnership. If you are gay and catholic do you feel you can still go to mass and be proud to be gay and catholic?

I think the traditionalists that stick to the dogma rigidly cannot and do not accept homosexuality and its legal recognition. Those who decide to be more fluid in their interpretation of the catholic church perhaps feel less conflict. But ultimately my experience as a gay catholic woman has only been negative. So I cannot and have not for almost a decade been able to go to mass and be gay and proud. It's soul-destroying but the way of the world in the church. Any wavering on their viewpoint of its immorality/incompatibility I often find not to be inclusive but dismissive and usually some sort of non-committal subterfuge to gain or retain congregation numbers.

I should only be judged by god and no one else, they have no right and or authority on matter pertaining to my soul and its final resting place I only wish Catholics would remember this and their own short commings before attacking people for who they fundamentally are.

I am a gay woman who was born and raised Catholic, and could care less what the Catholic Church thinks. I haven't attended Mass since I was in school, and don't intend to again. I think gay marriages should be legal and we should have the same rights as everyone else.

I am not gay, but and am Catholic. I have no problem with gay people going to mass and sharing in the sacrements. Are we Catholic's not asked to come together and celebrate mass in memory of Jesus Christ?
I, personally, do not concern myself with other peoples sex lives. I am more concerned with what is in a persons heart.
I am aware many Catholic's do not sanction gay marriage within the church, but can not understand their problem with a civil union, which would give commited couples the same rights as heterosexual couples under the law.

You cannot be part of the Catholic church if you practice homosexuality. It's part of their doctrine. By the way, why is gay or being Catholic things to be proud of? Be proud of being a good, responsible person, someone who always tries to do the right thing. THAT is something to be proud of.

According to official church teaching its the act that's sinful, not the inclination. So if you are a practising homosexual in theory you shouldn't go to communion. That doesn't stop you going to Mass though. However I ask myself what about all those catholics, and I am a RC myself, who practise contraception, that's about 99% - in theory they cant either. At the end of the day we all fall short of the ideals of Jesus. But then Jesus came for sinners, that is normal human beings like me so what would he say? I cant see him stopping people being as they are. if you are a good person and try your best, falling at times as we all do,what would he do? He'd love us enough to die for us and he did that already! it doesn't mean give up and accept to be a sinner but just trying to live everyday life knowing God loves you no matter who or what you are.

I'm not catholic but I'm gonna throw in my two cents.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NIV): "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters, nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Although the Bible doesn't detail each and every one of these sinful acts, it does clearly speak out about many of them. Any deviation from God's original plan for sex between a married man and woman is still a sin in God's eyes. The main reason we call these things perverted is because they are unnatural and scripture clearly tells us those who do such things are committing abominations. Leviticus 18:22 (KJV): "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind it is abomination."

Homosexuality is among the list of deviate or abnormal sexual practices however, there are many other practices that can be included as well. Pornography, pedophilia, prostitution, bestiality, oral sex, phone sex and computer virtual reality sex, just to name a few of them.

So I say this. If your a catholic and follow the bible how can you support homosexuality? If your a homosexual and are a catholic how can you live with a religion that discriminates against you?

The whole thing just confirms my belief about religion that people just take what they want from it rather then seriously follow it. Its a joke.

The Catholic Church teaches that 'homosexuality is intrinsically disordered', and that it violates the natural law. They teach that marriage is wrong, because the married couple must be open to having children.

I am a straight Christian who attends a Catholic high school. The above was 'taught' to us during our sad excuse for a Morality class.

I support the LGBT with all my heart, and pray every day that they will receive their full rights guaranteed under the law. I strongly disagree with what the Catholic Church teaches.

I'm a catholic lesbian... I believe that while the Pope may not like gays. God loves everyone and in the end He's all that matters. Aslong as I am a good person and have fatih in him then I am being a good christian. I don't need the validation of others.
