can someone tell me why the astros dont have a first round pick in the draft this year

they lost it when they signed carlos lee. If an MLB team signs a Free Agent before December 16th, then that team must give the draft pick to the player's original team.

Forfeited by signing free agent Carlos Lee.
Baseball does not allow trading of draft picks. That's a thing used by the lesser sports.
