I have a Vauxhall Astra. Whenever it rains and I drive the car after parking it up at night, the next day the brakes seem to stick onto the wheels. After a lot of struggling I manage to move the car or it don’t move, sometimes this creates a banging sound when the brakes are released. I think it’s my hand brake that sticks. What do you think is the problem I would be grateful if I could get some professional opinion. I will go to a mechanic this week soon. Thanx guys

Sounds like your parking ( Hand ) brake cables are not releasing, you'll need to have them checked, you will must likely need your back brakes replaced.

Sadly this is a typical Vauxhall issue. The rear brakes jam on, and needs a bit of forward and reverse (often works best in reverse with how weight forces work) gear action to get them to unbind. The banging noise is just the brake pads/shoes seperating themselves from the braking surface/drum/disc.
This does happen on most other cars when the handbrake is pulled on tight on hot brakes (metal cooling and bonding to brake pads/shoes) but seemingly only Vauxhall have mastered the magic water brake binding trick!

The brake pads are sticking to the disk and a bit of rust is forming. Normally this isn't a problem except say after hose washing the car. Have you perhaps got unusual wheels that leave the brake area a bit more exposed?

Could be hand-brake. Don't know about your vehicle but my handbrake worked like a smaller drum brake and did get stuck, had to be replaced. If you don't do a lot of miles your discs can get glazed, or rusty, and cause sticking. Or you may need a caliper overhaul, i had one of these go as well, caused the brake pads to be applied too heavily, wore the pads out much quicker than the other wheel.

Could be your hand brake cable is jamming from rust, or dirt. You will need to crawl under the car, maybe, or sometimes they put the cables right near the rear leaf springs, near the outer rocker panels, you can check there from the side of the car, see if there's rust build-up, or dirt, just spray some WD-40 or penetrating lubricant fluid into the opening the cable wire goes into the cable shell at, and see if it frees it up some. Have this happen a lot on older cars, as the cables rust and get dirt / grunge built up underneath and around the cable.

If it is the handbrake cable then if you release the hand brake lever and then pull the lever back up it would not have any resistance feel to it as all you are doing is moving the handbrake lever and not the cable because it is stuck on.The problem that i have most frequently encountered is the brake wheel cyl handbrake bisector lever seizing and not pivoting to release the brake shoes from the drum

definately take to garage when it involves brakes, most likely the vauxhall's have 2 braking systems the normal footbrake, then the handbrake is seperate inboard in the brake disc, advice is good about anti sieze compound. because they are inboard they get neglected.
