I can not find a reason why they should not make the playoffs. They have Cole hamels who is becoming one of the most dominant pitchers in the whole MLB. Ryan Howard who is the reigning MVP, Chase Utley who provides everything a ballclub needs a good fielder and an excellent situational hitter. Jimmy Rollins who is the guy who leads the team and keeps everybodys heads up, he also is a great fielder and a leadoff hitter who can provide some power. Shane Victorino and Aaron Rowand give great defensive contribution in the outfield. Pat Burrell has been hitting well lately and not K'ing as much. Wes Helms and Abraham Nunez have been doing well splitting time at third. And our bench players are doing outstanding such as Greg Dobbs who can fill in when Howard is injured and hit the hell out of the balll, Micheal Bourn is a speedy guy who can jump on the bases as a pinch runner and score runs, and Jayson Werth who also hits very well. Other pitchers that have been doing well are the veteran Jamie Moyer, Brett Myers has filled in well at the Closer role (hopefully thats where he stays), and Freddy Garcia has been pitching well even though not statwise. Rookie Carlos Ruiz is everything you want in a rookie, he can hit the ball far, hes clutch, and he does not have a big head. Even manager Charlie Manuel has been keeping his temper down and has not got thrown out of a game in a while. All of these reasons are why the Phillies should go to the playoffs they are a great young team who if clicks should just dominate the competition.

It is possible.
The Mets and Braves are very solid this year. To take over one of those teams would be the only way the Phillies could get into a wild card position.
May is early. At the all star break we may want to re-examine this question and then have a better answer to the question.
