All my friends are sexually active. Everyone makes fun of me because Iam a virgin. I don't feel in a rush to make a decision that could result in several different negative consequences and emotion baggage. What are some of the benefits of abstience? what are some of the disvantages of waiting? How do I know when Iam ready to make that decision?

The advantages are that you won't catch a sexually transmitted disease, you won't be a daddy before you want to, and once you have sex there is a LOT of emotional baggage. I waited until I was 18 to have sex, but I'm quite upset about my first time because it wasn't with a person I loved. I did it just to get it over with and now that I've grown up a little (I'm 23 now) I wish I would have waited to give myself to my husband. Please wait until you are with the person you love and believe that is the person you want to marry, because you can only lose your virginity once. Don't get pressured by your friends to have sex, do it when you are ready. Good Luck

Only you should make the decision when you are ready and don't let peer pressure get to you. Abstinance is a good thing because you will not ever have to feel bad about sleeping with someone and then they never call you back (getting used), you don't have to worry about STD's, and you don't have to worry about getting pregnant and being a single Mom. Your body should be precious to you and when the right person comes along that you love, and share a mutual trust and respect for each other and each other's beliefs, then you will have to make that decision. Waiting until you get married could be a very special thing, too and create a bond between you that is very strong. Don't listen to your friends, listen to yourself and don't do anything until you are absolutely sure you are ready and with the right person. There are no down sides to waiting.

my favorite analogy:

you own and drive a car. its a good car, got a few things wrong, but it works.

you get the next car, its BETTER than the last car, mostly.

car after car you get, and each one is compared to the previous ones.
what if you fall in love with one of the cars that isn't as good as another?

simply having only 1 car mean you cannot compare it and make it better or worse.

i say wait.

wait till there is no doubt in your mind. wait even a little longer, since it could be a choice in the moment.

and the old adage goes "you'll know when you know"

only disadvantage: you won't get to rail the hot chick while she is still hot. but she prolly has something so it is really a good thing.

Sylvester, I wish I had your approach to life. You seem very thoughtful about your future, and proud of who you are, despite peer pressure. I admire you, and I reckon you'll have no problem in deciding when your time is right. You are already experiencing the advantages of being a virgin ( you have morals, and high ones ) and you will probably get tenfold the pleasure from a sexual relationship when it comes about because you have sincerity.

You will know when you are ready. There really are no disadvantages to waiting. Benefits, no STD's, no pregnancy, no emotions involved. I wish I would have waited longer. Tell them to back off
