I think I'm living proof that it can't be 'teachers pet' or 'kissing up '.
As you know, I say it like I see it . And our precious, foolish moderators on Y/A don't give me an inch, as would a teacher who would show favoritism . I got a violation for answering a question recently. . . . 'Why does the world hate Israel'. . . .I answered basically that the hate has always been there and radical Islamists teach their children to hate Jews and most everybody else for that matter . Well, that answer is historical fact, but Yahoo Jane said. . . . " You answered in an incendiary manner insulting other religions ". . . WHAT ? Radical Islam is not a religion, it's a terrorist organization !! It's not Islam or Muslim. . . . . it's Terrorism . But to no avail . Yahoo would do better if they got older, more experienced moderators who knew what the heck they're talking about .
BTW, I think I saw where they've said. . .' if you get 10% best answers in a particular week, then you'll have Top Contributor status' . So you could do it this week or any week .
And one last thing. . . .. .I've noticed that I get Best Answer less often than I did before I had this Top Contributor thing . I think people often try to help spread the wealth, or points in this case, and sometimes feel that Top Contributors already have enough . Most times it doesn't bother me at all, but after going so long without best answer, I begin to wonder .
There are benefits to it, but not in the case of best answer .

Hi Ya Buzz,
Teacher's pet , I am not sure of that but it does get one targeted for hate mail.Well then again a teacher's pet usually gets one targeted also. So I will say good analogy, buzz.

Top Contributer just means you answered a sum of questions on one particular subject. It has nothing to do with points, or best answers. I think it's stupid. I would rather the box be RED, so I don't have to wait until Friday, to wear the color RED.

It kind of reminds me of Dr. Suess' Star Bellied Sneetches.
It seems that those without them want them, and those who have them either wish they didn't or don't really care.

I avoid it by not sticking to one category .... not that I would get one or anything, but just saying ... I just don't want that kind of attention.
