the belts need to be tightened and if that doesn't work you will have to break down and buy new belts.

I agree with all the others about sending the money, sounds like a shady deal to me. As for the car, $5200 is about right for a 66 coupe in the condition it is in. I looked at all the pics, and there seems to be the typical Mustang rust spots showing up, rockers, looked like some soft spots in the floor. Take a good close look at the floor pans, and troque boxes, they are almost always rusty in the early Mustangs. It also looked like there was some water damage on the right side along the package tray/rear window area. The interior looks like it needs some TLC. The claim about 30mpg(no car got 30 mpg in those days) I bought a new 66 Mustang in September of 66, it was a 289 and got about 12, the 6's got about 18-20, no squeeks or rattles, don't believe it. I have a 66 fastback, and take extreamly good care of, and it still makes those kind of noises. Go look at the car in person if you can, and pay for it then. Plan on spending another $5000-7000 to bring it up to proper condition. How far are you from the car? I wouldn't want to drive it more than 50-75 miles before giving it a good going over.

Besides all the answers you have already received, misaligned pulleys can cause belts to squeal also. You should be able to see this if you stand to the side of the engine and sight across the belt and notice if it runs parallel with all pullies.

May be time for a new set of belts, or if it has, adjust the tensoner...check that all the pullies are tight... they sale a "belt dressing" wich may help rid the "squeel"
Best wishes, if you ever need parts, check out ROCKAUTO.com i think they have a pretty good site, i use them!
Best,

It could be this Can you adjust the alternator. You may need to tighten just a little. It could have slipped over time.
Try this out if you can.
If it works can I ask for a BA.
