I know that there are lots of similar questions around and I've already been looking around however none were of any help to my problem.

My desktop computer, which is directly connected to my broadband modem, works just fine, but it's my laptop that can't connect to the Internet through my new wireless router.

I just bought the new TP-Link 108M Wireless Router TL-WRG642G and it's connected to a Prolink ADSL2+ Modem/Router. The TP-Link Wireless Router didn't come with any UTP cables and so I bought 2 kinds of cables just to be sure. I have a straight UTP cable and I have a crossover one. Which one do I use to bridge it to the Prolink router?

Anyway, the TP-Link Wireless Router is detected by my laptop. My laptop's TCP/IP is already set to automatic. My SSID and WEP are configured without any problems. Basically the laptop connects to the Wireless Router. The problem is that there's no Internet passing through.

Please help! Thanks so much!

You should connect the access point to the router with a straight through cable. It should get an IP from the Router.
(its just another computer as far as your modem/router is concerned)

You will probably need to configure the Access Point as a bridge and turn off DHCP on it else it will attempt to behave as another router (can be made to work but would isolate all wireless units from the wired network). The mode is usually set from the AP setup screens.

Once that is done you should work just fine.

if someone is in the same building, i.e. apt. and they are using a wireless router, it can cause the router confusion and you lose your internet. Happened at my last job all the time cuz we were right nextdoor to a business that had wireless routers too.

Check your firewall. Zone Alarm does that.
