And for that matter, where is the best place to change my currency in the UK? Who charges the least? I am flying out of NYC tomorrow and will be in London most of the time.

It will be cheaper changing it before, but it would mean carrying it around with you. There aren't as many pickpockets as other countries but I would still carry it around in a hidden money belt to be on the safe side. The Post Office in the UK is commission free and usually has a good exchange rate. You'll also find them in every town.

Although ATMs are convenient they are probably going to give you the poorer exchange rate. Although this can be .1 difference it'll mount up on large sums.

Use an ATM when you are there, the exchange rates are based on the best rates. You can check beforehand to see if your bank has ATMs there, but even if they do not, paying a couple of dollars to get money from a non-network ATM is probably worth it for the rates and convenience.

I would get it changed in the US but would call several banks to find the least expensive. Keep in mind that $4 here is almost $8 there so it would probably be cheaper here. Also, how about asking under International Answers found below?
