If you are not using OE, try disabling any firewalls.

This is very common, just right click on the red x, and hit show picture. If that doesn't work, try checking security settings. Get internet explorer 7.

This is common...I get it too sometimes. That is like the HTML thing. It means that the picture is too big, or that the e-mail you are using can't read it. I don't think you can open them. But, hey, it IS the internet, right? There may be a way.

It means its a broken link - I have this happen at work because the firewall stops them. Try pasting them into word or excel or something and sending them that way - it might help.

some e-mail clients such as hotmail block attachments from downloading due to virus potential. if you right click the red X and pick show picture you should be able to view it.

I think it's a quirk with Yahoo mail. tried to figure it out awhile ago. Ironically I just posted to someone at CNet about this very thing last night. I put my "workaround" tips in there. http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6121_102-0.html?forumID=45&threadID=248221&messageID=2491124#2491124

IE or your security software is blocking them because they think they may contain malware.
Try Firefox:
If still stuck, check all security settings.
