It is not from the nitrous oxide system, i always saw it on car racing movie. The guy went in the car and ignite the engine, fire spitting from the muffler. Or sometimes when the engine is running, the guys just press the acceleretor and the muffler spitting fire. Read it on magazine, they call it "dragon fire or dragon breath". i want to know how it works, please tell me in the lay man term.

Being an old-timer and having hotrods most of my life
( when I wasn't either broke or my license was suspended! ) we used to drill and tap a hole near the end of the exhaust pipe to fit a spark plug in then ran a wire up to the distributor cap and hooked it to one if the plug wires with a switch on the dash. Then when the engine was revved up the spark plug ignited the unburned gasses and VIOLA! Dragon Breath! I toasted the end of my 69 Camaro convertible by doing that and wouldn't recommend it. Hindsight is 20/20 now!

This was done by trained professionals on a closed course,
Do not try this at home!!!

two ways... Ive seen it too.. add a small propane burner to the tailpipe, as gasses are forced out of the pipe a standard Gas Grill igniter button is pressed creating the spark needed to "Flame on!" you can house the propane tank, (small coleman type) in the armrest of your car, and turn it on and off from there.
Second way, have a very rich burn in your carb (if your car is old enough to have an adjustable carb.) What that means is your car is getting too much gas in the combustion mix and not ALL of it will burn off, with the proper exhaust temp, it can ignite at the tailpipe when it mixes with enough air.
I personally dont recommend doing either, but hey.. people put rockets on mopeds... so....
You mentioned seeing this in a movie... thats really about the only place its generally seen at. That and race tracks or car shows. any car without an exhaust system beyond the exhaust headers will be breathing fire....

Hot exhaust parts can ignite un burned fuel. Run the rpms up and close the throttles left over fuel mixture blows down the exhaust and reignites. Engines designed for maxium power use even more fuel thus bigger flames. Turbo charged engines on the race track can set alight the grass along the side the race track.

That means that after using all summer, the plug is getting fouled and the carburetor is compensating by running rich.... Clean the plug with a wire brush and re-gap it every 3 cuttings. Get some Berryman's B12 and spray into the carb with the air filter off and clean the air filter with some type of solvent. I use gas... Replace the plug every beginning of the season and change the oil, and you're good to go

what you do is you take the piping running from the headers out and put in like 2.5+" piping and throw out the cat and put a big muffler at the end. i have a 4" muffler on mine pretty loud.

It may mean all of the gas and air mixture is not igniting in a cylinder when the mixture is compressed. The gas/air mixture then hits the hot catalytic converter and ignites, shooting flames through the remainder of the exhaust system. This is not a good thing.

Simply excess fuel that did not completely combust in the Combustion Chanber (cylinder), but combusted during the exhaust stroke. WASTED FUEL

what comes out your exost is Carbon Monoxide, which in any case somewhat flammable when you mix it with oxygen or whatever but there is like a lil ignitor that you install into your exost that when you push the gas petal it ignites, but its very highly illegal to even have one of them I wish it was legal or I would have one on my car, but I think Joseph B has the Best answer he knows what I'm trying to say.

Can you see a stocked 89 Accord running down the road with flames coming out the exost, they will think I'm crazy.
