What kind of spreading plant or spreading vine can I plant on my front hill that will smother out and kill my grass and take over? My hill is steep and I'm getting too old to cut my front lawn. It is extremely hard. I want that grass gone but it is about 200 feet long of grass and about 10 feet up the hill. I planted crowne vetch and this did not work. What will work? I want something that will kill the grass and I won't have to dig up the grass and move it somewhere else. Is there such a thing? Myself and my back would appreciate your answers. Thanks.

first, what state or growing zone?
You really need to kill the grass first... 2 options:
1. place and secure on top of the turf: tarps, black plastic, old carpet, cardboard, or something to smother the grass for about 1 month..
2. apply an herbacide like round up to the area.. but you can't plant in that area for 6 weeks after you apply the herbacide

Actually, if you use Round Up(Glysophate) in the concentrated form(red and white bottle) or the ready to use form(blue and white bottle) you can actually plant the next day, not 6 weeks. Being that you have roughly 2000 sq/ft I would suggest the concentrated form to keep your costs down. I'm not sure what your location is so, so its kind of hard to reccomend a ground cover. Good Luck!

Find a nursery in your area and ask about ground covers like ivy. I don't know if it will smother the grass, though. You may have to kill it all first with roundup or something similar.

Verbena will take over and smother anything in its path. Pretty too.
