My husband has stayed awake for 48 hours while in Iraq, but the military requirements are atleast 4 hours of sleep a day (not necessarily consecutive hours). How many hours are we talking here ?

Edited to say:

I don't think so. My husband does it all the time in the Army. It hasn't negatively affected him yet . He sleeps like a rock now that he is home and has returned to a regular sleeping schedule.
