Either you use the formula:
speed = distance / time
4 = 0.5 / t
4t = 0.5
t = 0.5/4
t = 0.125 hours
t = 7.5 mins
OR
4000m => 1hour
500m => (1/4000) x 500 hour = 0.125 hr = 7.5 mins

Distance = 500 meters
Speed = 4 km/hour
Looking at the speed:
4km = 4000m
1hour = 60 mins
So the speed is 4000m/hour = 66.67m/s (4000/60)
You want to travel a distance of 500m so the time taken is
Time taken = Distance/speed
500 / 66.67 = 7.5 mins

500 meters is 1/2 a kilometer.
4km is therefore 8 lots of 500 meters.
If you travel 4 km per hour, you travel 8 lots of 500 meters in the hour.
So the time taken to travel 500 meters is 1/8 of an hour.
60 minutes divided by 8 is 7 and a half minutes.

Its 7.5 minutes
If it takes 1 hour to travel 4km, then it must take half an hour to travel 2km, quarter of an hour (15 mins) to travel 1km and therefore 7.5 mins to travel half a km which is what 500metres is.
Did you want the time = distance divided by speed calculation instead? That would be 0.5 divided by 4 which would be 0.125 hours which equates to one eighth of an hour i.e. 7.5 minutes.

Simply -- 500meters is 1/8 of 4km.(4000m) So it will take 1/8 of 1 hour (60 mins) 60/8 = 7.5 minutes.

we use the distance formula:
r = d/t where r=rate, d=distance, t=time.
r=4km/hr = 4000m/hr. (convert to have the same units)
d=500m
t=?
r=d/t
4000m/hr = 500m/t
t=0.125 hours or7.5 minutes or 450 seconds. :)

4 km/h is roughly 1 m/s (3.6 km/h = 1 m/s) so it would take approximately 500s, or about 8 minutes.
That's not exact, but it's a good example of estimation in action.

So rearrange: t = d / s
Oh yeah, remember to convert 500m into km so as to get your answer of time in hours. You might then have to convert hours into minutes I suppose.
The other thing you could do is convert your speed into meters per minute or meters per second and then do the calculation.
