No. At low speeds a raindrop shape (rounded front and pointy rear) is better. That's why airplane wing cross sections are shaped like this.

Yes, to a point. At supersonic speeds, however, the object needs to be sharper or (preferably) stronger at the front so that the front won't dent in. If an egg was going at Mach 1, either point of the egg would dent in, thus breaking the whole egg.

But yes, it is an ideal shape for aerodynamics. That's why even the fastest jet planes and space shuttles do not have a sharp, pointed tip at the front, but rather a rounded but strong tip at the end. Because it won't put much stress on the tip and evenly distributes air around the tip, so there won't be minuscule but potentially dangerous whirlpools of air around the front of the plane.
