Almost everybody in society is referenced in regards to the people around them. Early on in life we are defined in terms of our parents "Daddy's little girl", then categorised in terms of our peer group at school "teacher's pet". Then we are referenced to those around us at work, in terms of position, salary and achievements "the boss, colleague etc". Finally we tend to become defined as someones parents "Jim's Dad", and the cycle begins again. I think from your question gender may appear to affect how we are defined when the majority of parents who stay and look after their children are women. In this case it is easy for society to see men as the normal in the workplace, and to see wives as an adjunct to their husband and then to their children. Society has changed massively over the last 100 years, and more women are keeping their careers, and men staying at home and so, in time, this is likely to be not a gender question as men are no longer in the overwhelming majority.

A woman is an intelligent human being capable of being her own person and not being defined by anyone else but herself.
edit: Now that I think about it, the one above me has a valid point and it does happen that way at times if the woman is married. I suppose I am known as my husband's other half.

A person should always be defined by their own accomplishments. The fact though is that everyone is defined by those around them. You are judged by the spouse you have, the family you have, and even the friends you have. Shouldn't be like that, but the fact is that is the truth.

A woman should be known by her own achievements.Woman means man with a womb.Otherwise there is no difference. If you mean Mrs...so and so etc ,it is a custom. When there are many people with name Mary ,you may write for clarity and for easy identification as Mary Thomas,Mary John etc.Even the names of men are written in documents llike Robert S/o Thomas etc. These are just for identification.

What do you mean? Nowadays, women are almost always defined in reference to their own achievements, as most women work and earn their own money. It was only when a woman married and gave up work that she became defined by her husband.

Yes, as should everyone - better, worse; man, woman; everyone's 'standard' should be realtive to others or there are no standards. Everyone should aspire to be the best.
There are about three ways to interpret this question, I hope I got it right.

Yet another 'deep' question (I think) but again one that is almost completely incomprehensible! Whatever are you asking?
