When the good news you are receiving would bring jealousy and problems among those around you. Some examples would be :
1. You boss announces your promotion in a meeting and you
know all your colleagues are fighting for the position. If you
smile, it would fan the fuel of the people who would
already be burning with envy and hatred and the jealous
ones would gang up against you. Back stab etc..
2. When you are in a final of a contest and there are only two
of you left and by which time, the 2 of you would already
have built up a kindship. The other person would be very
heart broken and trying to control his or her emotions
because it is a so near and yet so far situation. Besides
that, the camera would be so close up on the both of you
and you want to show some consolation to the other
person in this case, although he or she would be putting
a brave front and trying to control tears of disappointment.
3. When your superior who hates you like poison is being tiold
off by the boss for some mistakes and you dont want to
or dont dare to embarass him or her.
And the list goes on and on , only I dont want to strain your eyes. And how was your interview?

It's not appropriate to smile when someone else is unhappy.
It just might make them feel even more unhappy.
Not good to gloat that you are happy and they are not.

When you are with people who don't know you very well, and you have to explain why you smile. It just takes away the magic of why you are "happy".

when u see someone u really hate gettin the sh!t beaten out of them. id b happy but i wouldnt smile cos that would make me seem like a right b!tch(even though i totally am)
