It is customary to capitalise the universal commons, like the Sun, the Moon, the Himalayas etc.
Hence we are to capitalize the word "Sun" wherever it is used.

Do You Capitalize Sun

We're talking about the heavenly body, right?

If you treat the Sun as a personified object (i.e. Mr. Sun) or as the *name* of a heavenly body - eg. Sun, Earth, Mars - then you capitalize it. But if it's a sentence that doesn't focus on the word "sun" as a name, like in "We get warmth from the sun," then there's no need to capitalize it.

When referring specifically to the sun in this solar system, it should always be capitalise.
The Sun is the centre of our solar system.
When referring to stars in general, sun should not be capitalised.
A star is otherwise known as a sun.

**I didn't until recently. Now I capitalise all the names of the bodies in this solar system: Sun, Moon, Earth, etc.
If it's the... capital letter.
If it's a...lowercase letter.

The word "Sun" is always capitalized as it refers to our solar system's star. However, the word "sun" has already been generalized so if ever, there is a star (a central one) in another solar system, you say that that star is a "sun." During that time, the word "sun" is no longer capitalized.

You don't capitalize 'sun' unless there is a period before it started on a sentence. You could also capitalize it when it's suppose to be the nickname for Sunny.
