I've got timely content I'm working on for one of my websites but have been trying to work out some quirks with my default page. I've just submitted the URL of the inside page in question to Google but was wondering if Google will automatically index the default page on a site if the default page is not yet linked from other sites nor submitted to Google's spiders. I didn't necessarily want my default page indexed yet until I got these issues resolved, but if I submit an inside page (say, inside.asp) to Google, will it automatically look for default.asp on the same domain?

Shon P, will Google search for the default page on the domain even if it's not linked from one of the inside pages? If I submit inside.asp to Google but not default.asp, will Google automatically search for default.asp on that domain since, well, it's the default page?

What I meant to ask was, if default.asp is not linked from the submitted URL, will Google automatically search for a default page on the domain or will it only follow the links it finds?

No, if it is not linked then Google will not find it or search for it, they will only index the page or pages that you have submitted that are linked.
If you especially do not want a page spidered or indexed, then you can always puy a robot exclusion meta tag in the head of your page.

You can submit to google a site map. The site map tells google bot what are the web site pages, regardless if they are linked to each other.
An SEO (Search engine optimization) expert can help you promote the web site and get you good results.

google will crawl every page that is linked from that submitted page including your default.asp page. it will also index yoursite.com/ page so that can be either index.html, index.htm or index .php
