I think a good lesson to learn the hard way is being with that person everyone tells you is not good for you. By actually being with that person, and realizing they are not good for you on your own is the only way you can truly believe that they are "bad" for you. It is also very benefical in decisions concerning future relationships. It helps you to set standards, and realize what you need and what you don't need. No matter how much people tell you, you will never realize it unless you found out for yourself. The "bad" person will not be a complete waste of time because it was a learning experience..and you may even have a few life long memories from the experience..
