The Monte Carlo is a good choice...relatively cheap...a whole lot of shared platform parts to use....good aftermarket ...excellent engine choices...it already comes with a 305 or 350..you can do a 396, 427, 454, 502, or maybe a 540...supercharger...dual exhaust....you go muscle , do a lowrider, or do the Dirty South high riser with 24 to 26 inch rims and a truck suspension....everybody has done Cadillacs and Caprices...this is better than any Ford model during that time...a very versatile vehicle for a custom project.

An Oldsmobile Cutlass was a great car back then. They were sporty, powerful and dependable. They also looked really good. You could get a 350 or 455 cid V8 engine with all accessories.
An added reason to restore that one is they quit making Oldsmobiles, so they are somewhat more sought-after, and are a big hit at shows.
The larger Olds are good too, like the 88, 98, and the Toronado.
But the Cutlass was popular with youngsters, is a real kick to drive and easy to repair; even today.

Chevy made a nice Chevelle that year. Personally, I'd go with a 1973 AMC Javelin.

Chevy Camaro. And if you restore, will do well financially. Some of the Camaros and Firebirds have been going for over $75,000 at auctions.
Good luck on this project.

The Maverick was a great little car.
"Three on the Tree" it had and I could shift without using my clutch.
