I ran avg virus scan, seachbot and there were a ton of trojan horses that got deleted. I got infected yesterday. I feel I found most of them but I keep getting pop ups every 2 sec on what ever I search on the internet. How do I get rid of this and is it spyware, adware a virus?

It could be either adware or a trojan horse. I've had luck with the Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal. It locates both and can quarantine the file and/or delete it. You can get it at:

If you do not have firefox get it now and use it instead of internet explorer so you dont get any more spyware http://securitynewsfromthenet.blogspot.com/

If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot http://securitynewsfromthenet.blogspot.com/2007/03/spybot-search-and-destroy-spyware-and.html do that now .Update it and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans in safe mode .Then use the immunize feature to block bad sites from secretely installing any more trojan downloaders.

Run the vundo and combo fix

Often, a virus will get into the restore of the computer, and you can scan the computer, remove the virus, but then upon reboot, the virus will be back. To fix this, you need to turn off system restore temporarily, scan and remove, and then turn the restore back on. Do NOT start fixing your problem by disabling System Restore. This will wipe out all restore points and if you should have a problem that needs system restore, you would have no good working configuration to go back to get the computer up and running. Please visit these sites for how to enable/disable System Restore:

Steps to turn off System Restore
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.
3. Click to select the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click to select the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box.
4. Click OK.
5. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm that you want to turn off System Restore:
You have chosen to turn off System Restore. If you continue, all existing restore points will be deleted, and you will not be able to track or undo changes to your computer.

Do you want to turn off System Restore?
After a few moments, the System Properties dialog box closes.

Steps to turn on System Restore
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.
3. Click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box.
4. Click OK.

After a few moments, the System Properties dialog box closes.

It is also a good idea to scan the computer in safemode (Press F8 upon reboot). You might ask why. The Windows operating system protects files when they are being accessed by an application or a program. Malware writers create programs that can insert itself and hide in these protected areas when the files are being used. Using Safe Mode reduces the number of modules requesting files to only the essentials to make your computer functional. This in turn reduces the number of hiding places for malware, making it easier to find and delete the offending files. Using anti-malware tools, Scandisk, Chkdsk, Defrag, & Disk Cleanup in Safe Mode also speeds up the scanning process.

After you have completed the above tasks, see if your computer is still acting up, or running slow. If the computer issue is not resolved, please download HiJackThis

If your not sure about how this works stay away, you might delete something important.

Deleting a desk top Icon
Goto Start Menu > Run

Type regedit and press the enter key.

In the registry editor window that opens, click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the left pane.

Follow it to -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\

below NameSpace, you'll see long CLSID strings like {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}

Clicking on any of them will reveal it's name in the right pane.

Just select the one you need to remove and press the DELETE key.
Close the registry editor window.
Right click on desktop and select "refresh".

-------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes you have to dig deep
Like in the files

start>>>run>>>regedit

start>>>Run>>>msconfig

But if you don't know what ur doing stay away from it...

You can try doing a system restore that will take the computer back before it got infected by going to START then ACCESORIES then SYSTEM RESTORE.

That will be one of the best options :)
Hope this helps
