My daughter who has juvenile diabetes has been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. Regular medicine helps control symtoms but doesn't seem to be really effective at treating the "whole" person. Any ideas on what kinds of alternative medical modalities there might be for this? Any help or ideas at all are welcome.

I have PCOS. I have gone to Standford for a study. Dr Cataldo is the doctor. Go to pcosa.org

There really isn't anything yet to treat the whole person. I have taken Rx for diabetes along with Aldactone. I had taken the BC pill also, I hated that! I won't take it anymore.

I WILL tell you that I notice a HUGE difference in the symptoms when I eat a lower carb diet. The hair growth is less. But like the combo I mentioned above, that got rid of most of it also.

They also say that a symptom of this is infertility. I have three kids. My daughter does not have it although it passes from mother to daughter from what I understand.

There are just so many ways that women show this. From balding to acne to the extra hair growth. My mom only had missed periods. My sister never missed a period but had issues with her pregnancies. I would have maybe 3 periods a year no issues with pregnancies, but the hair growth - ICK! No acne - even in teen years.

PCOSA was formed by a group of women about 10 or so years ago that have this. Wonderful group! Total grass roots group to figure this out.

Treating the diabetes may help the PCOS. It's hard to give you specific information, because I don't know how old your daughter is, how long it's been since the PCOS was diagnosed, and what regular medication she's taking.

Non-medication treatments include losing weight, exercising, and eating a low-carb diet and/or low glycemic index diet.

Ian Stoakes has published a pair of books about diets that may improve PCOS:

The PCOS Association has teen-specific information under "support".

As you can tell, there's a lot out there. Best of luck.

I have no idea about alternitive medicine but what I finally got started on was the birth control Yaz. I'm not a huge fan of medicine but it has worked wonders for PCOS. Basic patho 101: The ovaries have cysts on them screwing up your cycle and kicking out the hormones at high odd levels. To control the symptoms you need to get the hormones under control. I noticed a drastic change (for the good!) after being on it for a month. Taking a pill a day sure sounds better than surgery!!!

hello. to my knowledge till today there is no relevant treatment for polycystic ovarian syndrome in alternative medicines.
Both the conditions of your daughter need to be carefully monitored by methods of Modern allopathic medicine. Dr. Damle

I've got chronic diabetes and I've followed a treatment using green clay for 3 years...it is very good for me, it treats the "whole" person...perhaps you can buy clay in Naturist shops...you can check these sites for info:
