When you are talking about the planet (i.e. using it as a name or proper noun) it is capitalized.

When you are talking about the ground (another word for dirt) then it is lowercase.

If you are referring to th earth as the ground that we walk on eg the earth was lush and green, then this is a noun and there is no capital. If you are referring to the planet Earth (or the planet Mars etc ie proper nouns) then a capital is required.

You capitalized Earth when you are talking about the planet itself. The Earth is blue and green and white, etc.

Earth also means soil, ground, etc, so you can use earth without capitalizing it.
She lay on the soft earth, gazing at the sky.

Mother Earth is Capitilized as is Earth Day!

Capitalize it at the beginning of a sentence and when you are writing about the planet. After all, names are capitalized.

capitalize the word if you use it as a noun, ie the planet Earth. do not capitalize it if you use it as a descriptive, ie:
the earthy soil of the plains is a good medium for growth.
